Ok, I know I promised, but I have to make one more yarn free post. Somehow it’s already the end of March. How did that happen? And guess what? I didn’t finish a single book. I did read, but mostly nonfiction stuff and I can’t count that until I read an entire book, as it is I just read bits of loads of different books. And I am only like ¾ through my only fiction book of the month.
Luckily, thanks to last month’s stomach bug (when I read 5 books), I only have to read 4 next month to catch up.
(If you don’t know what I am talking about: One of my New Year’s resolutions was to read 3 books per month.)

Einmal muss ich noch kurz ohne wollige Themen auskommen, sorry. Aber irgendwie sind wir schon Ende März, wie konnte das so schnell passieren? Naja, jedenfalls, habe ich kein einziges Buch zu Ende gelesen. Ich habe in mehreren Sachbüchern herum gelesen, aber das zählt nur, wenn ich tatsächlich eins ganz durchlesen würde. Und mit dem einzigen Roman dieses Monats komme ich irgendwie nicht so recht voran. Naja, dank der Magen-Darm-Grippe des letzten Monats (wo ich 5 Bücher geschafft habe) muss ich im April nur 4 lesen, um wieder aufzuholen.
(Falls ihr keine Ahnung habt, warum ich das erzähle, zur Erinnerung: es geht um meinen guten Vorsatz zum neuen Jahr, jeden Monat 3 Bücher zu lesen.)

Encore un petit message sans laine, désolée. Alors, je ne sais pas comment on a fait, mais on est déjà à la fin du mois de Mars. Et je n’ai pas fini un seul livre. J’ai lu dans plusieurs livres qui n’étaient pas de romans, mais tant que je ne lis pas un du début à la fin, je n’ai pas le droit de les compter. Sinon, le seul roman de ce mois, avance comme un escargot.
Bon, heureusement, avec l’avance que j’ai prise le mois dernier (grâce à la gastro j’avais réussi à lire 5 livres), il me suffit d’en lire 4 en Avril pour me rattraper.
(Si vous ne savez pas de quoi je parle : Il s’agit d’une de mes résolutions pour la nouvelle année qui était de lire au moins 3 livres par mois.)

I promise my next post will have yarn in it. But today I have some more sewing for you. This is a top adapted from the “Meg” pattern I purchased from Citronille. Its difficulty rating is 1, the easiest possible. I had read that several people found the “skirt” part way too wide, so I used a smaller size for the bottom part, but it still is really wide. I did not make the sleeves as I wanted a sleeveless top anyway and didn’t mind postponing learning how to set in sleeves. I lined the top part exactly the same way I lined the little dresses I already made. I didn’t have enough fabric to make it any longer (it is supposed to be a dress). I am already planning another one, not as wide, but longer. I only need to go and buy some fabric.
And so, from project to project, it’ll all get better and easier…..

Das nächste Mal geht’s wieder ums Häkeln oder Stricken, versprochen. Aber heute muss ich noch mal vom Nähen erzählen. Das hier ist ein Oberteil dessen Anleitung ich bei Citronille gekauft habe. Es nennt sich „Meg“ und ist eigentlich ein Kleid mit kurzen Ärmeln. Das mit den Ärmeln lerne ich ein anderes Mal, ich wollte eh ein Oberteil ohne Ärmel. Den oberen Teil habe ich mit Innenfutter gemacht, genauso wie ich das an den kleinen Kleidchen gelernt habe. Der untere Teil ist super weit, obwohl ich schon die kleinste Größe genommen habe, da ich gelesen hatte, dass viele das entschieden zu weit fanden. Und länger konnte ich es nicht machen, da ich nicht mehr Stoff hatte. Aber sonst… immerhin, oder?
Ich plane bereits die Folgeversion, länger und nicht so weit. Ich muss nur noch den passenden Stoff kaufen.
Und so geht’s langsamst voran mit den Nähkünsten, in der Hoffnung, dass bald alles besser und einfacher wird….

La prochaine fois je parlerai de crochet ou de tricot, promis. Mais aujourd’hui, encore quelques mots à propos de mes aventures en couture. Voici un haut que j’ai fait avec le patron « Meg » de chez Citronille. Il est marqué «difficulté 1» (le plus facile possible). Comme j’avais lu que beaucoup de monde trouvais la partie «jupe» beaucoup trop large, je l’ai déjà réduit, mais il est toujours assez large. Je l’ai fait sans manches (ça sera pour une autre fois) et j’ai fait le corsage avec parmenture (exactement comme je l’ai appris avec mes robes trapèzes). Je l’ai fait le plus long possible avec le peu de tissu que j’avais (normalement c’est une robe). J’ai déjà prévu d’en faire un autre, mais moins large et en robe. Il faut juste aller acheter le bon tissu.
Et c’est comme ça que doucement, de projet en projet, ça avance. En espérant que ça aille de mieux en mieux….

I made a total mess out of my Simplicity Top last night. Maybe sewing wasn’t such a good idea after having had only 3 hours of sleep the night before. I just didn’t understand the instructions for attaching the sleeves; I still don’t, at all. So I decided to try and wing it, ended up with too tight armholes, cut the whole thing up, tried to make it into a top for my daughter… and ended up with a wonky ugly mess. I was this close to just throwing it away.

Then, this morning, I had another look at it and decided to give it another try. I managed to make some changes; it is now actually wearable as a brief fitting showed. But the neckline is a horrible mess indeed, it’s several layers of trying to cover up mistakes with more mistakes. At this point however, I don’t think there’s anything else I can do. We’ll keep it anyway, just in case we run out of summer tops one day, it could come in handy after all.

Maybe I should go back to simpler patterns. Actually, I know I said the Simplicity pattern was marked simple, but now I can’t find any reference of it on the pattern, maybe it wasn’t, I don’t know.

I just got the other book by Astrid Le Provost in the mail, the one for babies. I shall stick with her patterns for a couple of projects as I seem to at least have started to understand her instructions quite well.

I discovered a great sew-along blog for all her patterns, the patterns from the 2 books as well as her line of individual patterns. There are dozens of new posts every day and many FOs for every pattern, very interesting: Je couds Citronille

I decided to try and sew something big, something for me, a top from a Simplicity pattern which I think was marked “very easy”. The thing with teaching yourself how to sew is that you as well as your teacher don’t know anything about it really. It needs a lot of very slow figuring things out. I am hopeful, however, that one day all that will seem easy and simple to me. Any ideas how many years/projects this will take? I am trying to be patient with myself.

What this project taught me so far:
- For big projects you need space, clean and uncluttered floor space (so far I cut all the small things on my ironing board) and that’s not as easy to be found as I thought.
- You need to repeat about a thousand times “please don’t walk over my fabric, please”
- Instructions are still very cryptic for me, so many new words and concepts.
- I didn’t have any marker that would show on this dark fabric, so I just cut around the paper pieces. No idea if that’s an acceptable approach.
I haven’t even cut out all the pieces yet, so this project will certainly keep me busy for some more time.

Diesmal wage ich mich an etwas Größeres ran, ein Top für mich. Das Schnittmuster ist von Simplicity und war glaube ich als sehr einfach eingestuft. Das Problematische am Sich-Selber-Beibringen ist, dass sowie ich als auch meine Lehrerin nicht viel Ahnung haben. Alles ist so kompliziert und dauert so lange. Ich hoffe aber doch, dass es mit der Zeit einfacher wird. Gibt es Prognosen, wie viele Jahre oder genähte Teile später man einigermaßen den Durchblick hat? Ich versuche mit aller Kraft, nicht ungeduldig zu werden.

Was ich an diesem Projekt lerne:
- Für große Sachen braucht man Platz, und zwar sauberen, spielzeugfreien Boden, nicht so einfach zu finden wie ich dachte.
- Mann muss etwa tausendmal den Satz wiederholen „Bitte, bitte, nicht über den Stoff laufen.“
- Die Anleitung ist für mich teilweise noch sehr wie Chinesisch, so viele neue Wörter.
- Da ich keinen hellen Markierstift besitze, habe ich einfach um die Schnittteile herum geschnitten. Ist das ok?
Ich habe noch nicht mal alle Teile ausgeschnitten, also das wird schon noch eine Weile dauern.

Cette fois-ci j’ose attaquer un patron plus grand, pour moi, un patron Simplicity qui était marqué „trés facile“ si je me trompe pas. Ce qui n’est pas évident quand on essaie d’apprendre la couture toute seule, c’est que non seulement soi-même mais aussi le prof n’y connaissent rien. Tout semble si compliqué et lent. Une idée combien d’années ou projets il faut avant d’avoir un semblant d’impression de maîtriser tout ça au moins un peu ? J’essaie très fort de ne pas être trop impatiente.

Ce que ce projet m’apprend :
- Pour un grand vêtement, il faut de la place, de préférence propre et sans jouets, pas si facile à trouver que ça en fait.
- Il faut répéter approximativement mille fois la phrase « Ne marchez pas sur le tissu, svp. »
- Les explications sont assez difficiles à comprendre pour moi, tous ces nouveaux mots.
- Comme je ne possède pas de crayon clair pour marquer ce tissue foncé, j’ai tout simplement coupé autour du patron papier. Aucune idée si ça se fait.
Je n’ai même pas encore coupé toutes les pièces, alors ça va m’occuper encore un bon petit moment.

So, I finally caved in and joined Facebook. The other day I was getting lost following a conversation with dinner guests because I wasn’t on there. So, darn it, here I am. I am not sure how and why to use this really. But I already stumbled upon an old friend from when I was living in New York, so that was a nice surprise. If you are on there and want to be my friend, go ahead (sounds a bit pathetic, but here you go).
I suppose it’s only a matter of days until I start twittering, too. Any other sites I absolutely have to be on???

So, nun bin ich auch auf Facebook. Neulich Abend konnte ich doch tatsächlich einer Unterhaltung mit Gästen beim Abendessen kaum folgen, weil ich nicht verstand, worum es ging. Das hat mir den Rest gegeben. Ich weiß zwar nicht genau, wie und warum man das nutzen sollte. Aber es hat mich gefreut, dass ich sogleich auf eine alte Freundin gestoßen bin, die ich seit 10 Jahren nicht mehr gesehen habe (aus geographischen Gründen, nicht weil ich sie nicht sehen wollte).
Also, wer will mein Freund sein? (Klingt ja furchtbar….)
Wahrscheinlich ist es nur noch eine Frage der Zeit, bis ich auch auf Twitter und sonstwo bin. Irgendwelche anderen super wichtigen Sites, die ich noch vergessen habe?

Bon, j’ai cédé et je suis maintenant aussi sur Facebook. L’autre soir avec des invités, j’étais complètement largué car je n’y étais pas, c’étais la goutte d’eau qui… Bref, je ne sais pas bien encore comment et pourquoi l’utiliser. Mais j’ai déjà retrouvé une copine du temps quand j’habitais à New York (ça fait plus que 10 ans maintenant), ce qui m’a fait bien plaisir.
Alors, si vous y êtes et voulez devenir mes amis, n’hésitez pas (ça fait un peu désespérée, mais bon…).
Je suppose ce n’est qu’une question de jours avant que je suis aussi sur Twitter et je ne sais plus où. Encore d’autres sites super importants que j’oublie ?

Ich arbeite immer noch an mehrere Projekten gleichzeitig, über die ich hier nicht viel erzählen kann. Aber eines habe ich, dass kann ich euch zeigen. Ich arbeite gerade an einer neuen Cecilia Cardigan (Ravelry Link). Diese war ursprünglich in der letzten Sommerausgabe von Yarn Forward Magazine und wird in einigen Monaten auch hier auf meinem Blog und auf Ravelry zu haben sein.

Maybe you’ve already heard of a new UK based crochet magazine? The first ever Preview of Inside Crochet is now available and I think it looks fabulous. I have a pair of socks in it. (I had trouble seeing all the pictures in IE, but it worked in Firefox.)

Vous aviez peut-être entendu parler d’un nouveau magazine de crochet basé en Angleterre ? On peut voir un aperçu du premier magazine ici : Inside Crochet Preview. Moi, j’ai fait la paire de chaussettes. (J’ai eu du mal à voir toutes les photos avec IE, mais ça marchait bien avec Firefox.)

Vielleicht habt ihr schon von der neuen britischen Häkelzeitschrift gehört? heute kann man die Vorschau der ersten Inside Crochet Ausgabe bewundern. Die Socken sind meine. (Ich persönlich hatte Probleme, alle Bilder in IE anzuzeigen, aber mit Firefox ging’s problemlos.)
