I knew it! Complaining publicly about not being motivated did work once again, and I had the most productive 2 days I’ve had in weeks. I’ve done good work on the urgent design. I’ve finished my third book for this month. And I even have a couple of ideas for blog posts to come. Yay!

And another thing, as you probably remember, when I got my own domain name and realized that my provider/host wouldn’t do the correct url redirection thing (meaning that if you put juliavaconsin.com in your feedreader you don’t get a response), I thought this was something I could resolve in no time. Haha, now, like half a year later, I am sick of waiting for the husband finally finding time with the friend/colleague that has a server that would be free etc etc, but I now believe they’ll never take the time from their busy work schedule, and as it would be free, I can’t really bug them about it. So, I’ve decided to look for a hosting company, but have no idea where to start, if you use any and like them or have any idea where I could find the right information, pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeease let me know.

And as I dislike posts without pictures, here’s proof of me starting a fabric stash.

Je le savais! Se plaindre publiquement a encore une fois marché. J’ai eu deux jours magnifiquement productifs, comme je n’en avais pas eu depuis des semaines. Le projet magazine a bien avancé. J’ai fini mon troisième livre du mois. J’ai même quelques idées de quoi écrire sur le blog. Yay !

Et j’ai décidé de prendre en main l’hébergement de mon nouveau blog. Comme vous vous rappelez peut-être, c’est cette histoire que free ne fasse pas la redirection de l’url (quand on met juliavaconsin.com dans son feedreader on ne trouve pas de fil rss). Bon, un ami/collègue du mari a de la place sur son serveur, mais j’en ai marre d’attendre qu’ils trouvent le temps de le faire ces deux là. Pour vrai dire je pense ca se fera jamais. Je vais donc devoir me trouver une solution toute seule, comme une grande. Mais comme je ne connais aucun service de ce genre, j’aimerais savoir ce que vous utilisez (le cas échéant) et si vous avez des recommandations à me faire. Ca sera super !

Et comme je n’aime pas des posts sans photos, voilà la preuve que je commence maintenant aussi une collection de tissu.

Seit ich mich hier öffentlich über meine Lahmar*igkeit in letzter Zeit beschwert habe, geht’s wieder aufwärts. Das hilft doch wirklich jedes Mal. Die letzten zwei Tage waren die produktivsten seit Wochen. Das dringende Designprojekt ist gut vorangekommen, ich habe mein drittes Buch zu Ende gelesen, ich habe sogar einige Ideen, was ich hier in nächster Zeit so schreiben könnte. Yay!

Und was ganz anderes: Ich muss meinen neuen Blog nun alleine irgendwo unterbringen. Eigentlich sollte ja der Mann mit einem Freund/Kollegen, der Serverplatz hat… blablabla… aber bis diese beiden sich tatsächlich mal Zeit nehmen wegen meinem kleinen Blog können nochmal sechs Monate vergehen. Deswegen habe ich jetzt beschlossen, dass es reicht mit dem Doppelbloggen auf myblog.de/juju und juliavaconsin.com. Wer sich erinnert, das Problem ist, dass mein Internetprovider, bei dem der neue Blog ge-hosted ist, keine Weiterleitung der url macht, man also keinen RSS feed findet und somit das ganze Domain-Namen-Kaufen eigentlich für die Katz war.
Deswegen wollte ich diejenigen unter Euch fragen, die eventuell ein bissl Ahnung haben, wo sie ihre Blogs hosten lassen oder ob mir irgendwer irgendetwas empfehlen kann. Das wäre super nett.

Und frei nach der Devise, kein Blogpost ohne Foto, hier der Beweis, dass ich nun auch noch ein Stofflager anlege.

- Pattern from the French book “Les intemporels pour enfants” by Astrid Le Provost
- I forgot that the seam allowances were part of the pattern, so my dress is a little bigger than the 2year old size in the book (luckily, otherwise my almost 2 year old would not have been able to fit into it).
- Both fabrics are left-overs from curtains, both are most likely cotton.
- I sewed the inside to the outside fabric because I was afraid it would bunch up when worn otherwise. So there are seams visible on the outside. But with the thread being almost exactly the same color as the fabric it doesn’t bother me at all.
- Used snap fasteners instead of buttons (will learn how to make button holes another time).
- Didn’t make the ruffle at the bottom (will learn how to make that another time, too), but used bias tape instead.
- Added a tiny “tag” in the back, so daddy would know which way to put it on, too.

I’ll add some detail pics during the next couple of days because right now she’s napping in it.

- J’avais oublié que les valeurs de couture étaient comprises dans le patron. Du coup ma robe est un peu plus grande que la taille 2 ans dans le livre (heureusement, sinon ma fille de presque 2 ans aurait pas pu rentrer dedans).
- Le tissu extérieur est une chute d’un ancien rideau, et à l’intérieur c’est aussi un reste de rideau (le tissu à vaches comme pour mes bavoirs), je pense tout est du coton.
- J’ai cousu la parmenture au devant/dos pensant que ça pourrait être difficile à enfiler et à porter sinon. Du coup, on voit les coutures sur l’extérieur, mais comme la couleur de mon fil était très proche de la couleur du tissu je ne trouve pas ça bien grave.
- J’ai remplacé les boutons par des boutons pressions (j’apprendrai à faire les boutonnières plus tard).
- Je n’ai pas fait de volants en bas (ça aussi, j’apprendrai une autre fois), mais je l’ai fini avec du ruban biais.
- J’ai rajouté une petite « étiquette » pour que le papa sache aussi dans quel sens ça se met.
J’ajouterai quelques photos de détails dans les prochains jours car elle est en train de faire sa sieste dedans.

Well, blog more was another idea I had for 2009, but it’s obviously not happening. So, just a quick update. I am struggling at the moment, with finding time, keeping awake, finding motivation…. I am working on it, making lots of lists (I love lists and without them I wouldn’t get anything done at all.). But most of the time, I feel like just cuddling up in bed with a book (the book challenge, by the way, is the only thing that’s coming along fine.).
Anyway…I am working on a project for Interweave Crochet and it’s going painstakingly slow. But I have to get it done, and soon. Let’s say, this week-end, I’ll chart out one of the big parts I still need to do and get at least half of it crocheted. Hopefully posting about it, will help get it done.

Notes:
- The instructions were very clear and easy to follow.
- Maybe it was a bit too much to handle, though, for a second sewing project. I just hope it’ll look better with practice. It is quite uneven and there’s plenty of puckering.
- There was a whole lot of hand sewing going on. And while I did learn a few tricks there, it didn’t teach me a lot about using my new machine. - My outer tube was a lot larger than my inner tube. The adjusting resulted in different sized panels, but I don’t mind that so much.
- I messed up the interfacing. I had never used interfacing before nor did I know anything about the different kinds available. Mine wasn’t thick enough at all. But if I stuff the pin cushion with notions, it holds up alright.
- I am still wondering why I absolutely needed double-sided fusible interfacing. I think one sided would have been just as well, “heavy” was the word I should have paid more attention to.

There’s another resolution for 2009 I have to talk to you about, especially because you’ll probably see a lot of pictures related to it because all the crochet and knitting stuff I am doing is top secret. 2009 is my “learn how to sew” year. I have my new machine, a simple beginner machine, but totally sufficient for what I am doing.

J’avais une autre résolution pour 2009, celle d’apprendre enfin un peu la couture. Je vous en parle car je vais probablement devoir beaucoup vous en parler, tout simplement car tous mes projets tricot et crochet sont top secret. Alors, j’ai ma nouvelle machine, une toute simple, mais ça devrait largement me suffire. Et j’ai déjà réussi mon premier projet. Le patron est gratuitement disponible ici.

Von einem weiteren Vorsatz für 2009 muss ich Euch noch berichten. Und zwar werde ich versuchen, das Nähen doch noch zu erlernen. Davon werde ich wahrscheinlich hier öfters berichten, da alle meine Häkel- und Strickprojekte im Moment super geheim sind.
Ich bin mittlerweile Besitzerin einer neuen Maschine, einer relativ einfachen, aber das reicht mir locker. Und mein erstes Werk ist auch schon fertig, eine Ladung Babylätzchen. Die Anleitung kann man hier umsonst bekommen.

I’ve decided to set myself a goal of 3 books per month, one in French, one in German and one in English. I am half way through my second book this month, so why wouldn’t that be possible?

Oh, and look what came in the mail yesterday. Those, however, do not count towards the 3 books, only “real” books do.

J’ai décidé d’essayer de lire au moins 3 livres par mois, un en Français, un en Allemand et un en Anglais. Je suis au milieu de mon deuxième livre ce mois-ci, alors ça devrait être possible.

Oh, et regardez ce que j’ai reçu par la poste hier. Par contre, ceux-là ne comptent pas vers les 3, seulement les « vrais » livres comptent.

So, ich habe beschlossen, folgendes zu versuchen: Jeden Monat lese ich mindestens 3 Bücher, eins auf Französisch, eins auf Deutsch und eins auf Englisch. Das müsste doch zu schaffen sein.

Ach, und das hier kam gestern mit der Post. Allerdings darf ich die nicht zu den drei monatlichen Büchern zählen, nur „echte“ Bücher gelten hier.

Another resolution I have had for a couple of years now is to read more. I do feel a direct link between how much I read and how well I write and talk. It’s obvious. When I read more, I write more easily.
But, as with time being more and more limited (or moving faster and faster if you want) I take less and less time to read. And I am missing it.
I have hardly a quiet moment during the day, someone is always talking to me (like right now I am listening to a compelling story of my son’s pirate boat having trouble in difficult weather conditions and pirates falling into the sea, and a plane coming to rescue them etc etc etc).
When the kids are finally in bed, I rush to the computer to work. So, I still don’t know where to find the time. But I still want to.
I’ve heard of a 50 book challenge somewhere on the net. Maybe I should set myself a goal like that and report back here. How do you find the time? How much do you read?

Restons sur les résolutions pour la nouvelle année. Une chose que je me dis chaque année et qu’en général je n’arrive pas à faire, c’est de lire plus. Le moins je lis, le moins bien je parle et surtout le moins bien j’écris, ça se sent tout de suite. Mais je semble de trouver de moins en moins de temps (ou le temps passe de plus en plus vite, si vous voulez), et ça me manque.
Je n’ai pas beaucoup de temps tranquille pour moi dans la journée. Il y a toujours quelqu’un qui me parle (actuellement une histoire sur le bateau de pirate de mon fils qui se trouve dans une tempête, des pirates qui tombent à l’eau, l’avion qui vient les secourir…….).
Quand les enfants sont enfin au lit, je cours à mon ordinateur pour bosser. Je ne sais donc toujours pas où trouver le temps, mais j’en ai toujours envie.
J’ai lu qu’il y a des gens sur le net (aussi sur Ravelry) qui se lancent le défi de lire 50 livres cette année. Peut-être devrais-je essayer un truc comme ça et faire un rapport ici.
Comment vous faites ? Vous lisez beaucoup ?

Eine Sache, die ich mir jedes Jahr vornehme (und eigentlich nie schaffe) ist, mehr zu lesen. Ich fühle einen direkten Zusammenhang zwischen wie viel ich lese und wie schlecht ich schreibe oder rede. Je mehr ich lese, desto leichter und freudiger schreibe ich auch.
Aber irgendwie finde ich immer weniger Zeit dazu (die vergeht irgendwie auch immer schneller). Aber ich vermisse es.
Allerdings habe ich auch nicht besonders viele ruhige Minuten tagsüber. Irgendwer redet immer auf mich ein (im Moment geht’s gerade um ein Piratenboot in Seenot und ein Ausmalbild, dass doch sehr “dud demaht” wurde).
Wenn die Kinder dann endlich im Bett sind, renne ich zum Computer und arbeite. Ich weiß also immer noch nicht, wo ich die Zeit her nehmen soll, aber ich suche weiter.
Im Internet gibt es mehrere Stellen (auch auf Ravelry), wo sich Leute vornehmen, dieses Jahr 50 Bücher zu lesen. Vielleicht sollte ich mir auch irgend so ein Ziel setzen und dann hier von meinem Ergebnis berichten. Wie macht ihr das denn? Wie viel schafft ihr so?

I didn’t actually make a list of resolutions for 2009, mainly because I still have too much from 2008 on my to do list. But as far as designing goes, I would like to take the time to learn more skills. For starters, how about a more efficient way to chart? My way is just taking for ever and ever…..
